Friends of the Music
Who are the Friends of the Music?
The Friends of the Music at St Mary’s believe that music enriches worship and enables people to experience a deeper sense of the presence of God and the creativity of humanity. Our parish church music making has a long tradition which is evolving in many new ways.
A message from our Priest
As a Christian Church the most important thing that we do is to worship God; the second most important thing that we do is to enable others to worship God. At St Mary’s the music that is offered is one of the main ways in which that worship is undertaken, and to nurture that music and the musicians who lead us in it is a noble and vital task.
I hope that when you read this web page and join in the worship which St Mary’s offers through its music, you will be moved to support the ’Friends of the Music at St Mary’s’.
I thank you for your support which will enable us to continue to lift our voices and hearts in worship of the God and Father of our Lord, Jesus Christ, for many years to come.
May God bless you.

In a change to the advertised programme for the concert on Saturday 16th September, a programme of music for organ and piano will be given by Graham Davies and Richard Hall. This will be the next concert in aid of The Friends of the Music at St. Mary’s and you are greatly encouraged to give this your support.
It is hoped that we can keep up the tremendous momentum generated during the launch in June when over 90 attended the concert and over £500 was contributed to the Friends. The wonderful displays showing memorabilia from the choir’s archives will remain in church as will leaflets describing the aims of the Friends and it is hoped as many of you as possible will feel able to become a Friend by completing the form and making a donation. The success of the scheme to benefit the musical education of singers and the future of the choral tradition will rely on regular and sustainable giving to this worthy cause.
On Saturday November 11th Gig Caritas Brass will be giving a concert for the Friends which should be well worth hearing in the fine acoustic at St. Mary’s – so please put this in your diaries.
September sees the return of the choir after their well deserved summer break and they will be beginning rehearsals for what will be a very busy term including cathedral services in Birmingham and Worcester and special services. It would be good to see the service of Choral Evensong better supported, especially as the choir offer some of the best church music in the repertoire sung to a very good standard. We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated group of singers and organists at St. Mary’s.
